Art Space Dedicated to the Aesthetic of Light and Shadow Born in Yoyogi-Uehara: Lei In Praise of Shadows to Open 'Lei Gallery Tokyo' on June 27

Lifestyle brand 'Lei' (operated by Antbee Co., Ltd.) is launching a new art space, 'Lei Gallery Tokyo,' inside the 'Lei In Praise of Shadows Flagship Store,' which opened in January 2026.

In addition to exhibiting and selling the Lei collection, which focuses on refining habits and scents, the company will use the gallery to express Lei's aesthetic through exhibitions by craftsmen and artists. The inaugural exhibition, 'Lacquer Exhibition: Crossing Mountains and Clouds' by lacquer artist Tasuku Murose, will begin on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

A Gallery as a 'Cultural Intersection'

'Lei Gallery Tokyo' is born as a space to exhibit and sell creators' works while sharing the aesthetic residing in materials, techniques, and culture both domestically and internationally.

We aim for a 'cultural intersection' where two different axes—Lei and creators, products and works, and Japan and the world—intersect to create new horizons. It is an art space for Lei, which continues to create under the theme of 'returning the mind and body to the starting coordinate of zero,' and creators who 'create one from zero' to explore the essence of craftsmanship through dialogue.

Inaugural Exhibition: Tasuku Murose Lacquer Exhibition 'Crossing Mountains and Clouds'

As a first step, we are hosting the first solo exhibition of lacquer artist Tasuku Murose.

Born in Tokyo as the second son of lacquer artist Kazumi Murose, Tasuku moved to the Okukuji region of Ibaraki Prefecture, one of Japan's leading lacquer production areas, upon gaining independence in 2023 to establish 'Kobo Yamano-ha.' At the same time, he opened a cultural exchange base called 'Nakano-kumo' in a residential area in Nakano, Tokyo, and has since been traveling between the two locations, engaging in activities such as 'growing lacquer' (planting), 'making' (producing works), and 'conveying' (information dissemination).

Murose was also deeply involved in the completion of the 'Lei In Praise of Shadows Flagship Store,' and the tabletops for the display stands inside the store were finished with lacquer under his supervision. By selecting the wood substrate and layering lacquer while making the most of the characteristic wood grain, he created an interior space that embodies 'In Praise of Shadows.'

In this, Murose's first solo exhibition, we will present mainly new works born from his several years of searching for new horizons as a lacquer artist. Visitors can also view the lacquer-finished display stands that receive light from within the store and outside, gently bringing out the shadows of the Lei collection, as part of the exhibition's works.
