Expedia, one of the world's leading full-service travel brands, is announcing its 'look-alike' travel destinations ranking in popular prefectures. In its 'Unpack ’26 Summer' travel trend report, Expedia Group noted a global rise in interest for domestic travel. In Japan, the weak yen and global inflation have increased the costs of international travel, making long-distance trips more challenging. Consequently, destinations where one can easily enjoy an exotic atmosphere while staying domestic are highly recommended. Expedia has identified the top 5 prefectures with rising search volumes and highlights spots that offer an international feel. Tokyo ranked 1st with a 70% increase in searches, followed by Shimane (55%) and Ishikawa (30%). Tokyo features the 'Nagaike Mitsuke Bridge' reminiscent of Paris, Shimane offers the 'Oki Islands' known as the 'Ireland of Japan,' and Ishikawa boasts the 'Chirihama Nagisa Driveway,' evoking Florida's Daytona Beach. For the upcoming summer season, choosing a 'look-alike' destination is a great way to enjoy travel. Expedia also offers bundle discounts when booking flights and hotels together. The 'Flight Deals' feature, launched in February 2026, analyzes millions of flight data points to help users find tickets at least 20% cheaper than expected. Additionally, the 'Price Tracker' sends push notifications for price fluctuations, allowing travelers to book at the optimal time.
