Background of the Exhibition: Tools for Daily Life from a Place Where Satoyama Culture Intersects with New Sensibilities

Tokigawa Town in Saitama Prefecture has long prospered through forestry and woodworking, utilizing its rich satoyama resources. In this town, the small shop "akarito," which has been comfortably connecting traditional satoyama culture with new sensibilities, has planned its second joint exhibition, following last year's event.

The theme this year is again "Oishii Toki," combining the meaning of "delicious" (everyday life) with "ki" (wood) and "toki" (time). The woodworkers will create new expressions of wood as seen in daily life. Especially now, when inexpensive and simple products abound, this is an exhibition and sale of lifestyle and cooking tools where you can experience with all five senses the warmth unique to handcrafted wooden products and the richness of a life surrounded by cherished tools that grow with time.

In a space that evokes the rich nature of Tokigawa Town, you can enjoy the unique charm of this exhibition, which, thanks to "akarito"'s involvement in the food and beverage business, allows you to experience the joy of "food" while admiring the four distinct woodworking styles. We offer a calm and comfortable moment to savor with all your senses, accompanied by carefully crafted takeout coffee, tea, and special food items.

Highlights of This Exhibition: A Collaboration of Originality from Four "Individually Distinct Woodworkers" Who Love Wood

The four woodworkers exhibiting together share a strong common desire to "utilize wood and connect it with people's lives," yet their styles and methods of expression are completely different. The highlight is the collaboration of a diverse range of works, where each of the four artists has interpreted the single theme of "handcrafted wooden tools for daily life" through their own unique sensibilities and applied it to everyday living.

Furthermore, this year, in addition to exhibiting and selling works, the "production process" of craftsmanship will also be showcased. It will be a valuable opportunity to witness firsthand the deep background and spirit behind how a piece of wood is transformed by the hands of artisans into a wooden product that enhances daily life.

Last Year's Results: Approximately 200 visitors in 5 days at a 10-tsubo shop

In the first exhibition held last year, which focused on "tools related to food," it was a great success, attracting approximately 200 visitors from within and outside the town over five days. During the event, a talk session was held, hosted by owner Ayano Muto, to draw out the honest thoughts and passions of the four woodworkers, creating a warm atmosphere where creators and users could connect deeply.
