Surv-Biopharma Inc., a biotech startup from Kagoshima University, announced that its oncolytic adenovirus "Surv.m-CRA-1" has been designated as an "Orphan Regenerative Medicine Product" by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan. The therapy utilizes a survivin promoter to selectively destroy cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. Currently in Phase III physician-led clinical trials, Surv.m-CRA-1 targets primary malignant bone tumors, a rare and difficult-to-treat cancer with high unmet medical needs. This designation provides incentives such as subsidies and priority review.
