Armani / Silos and Fondazione Piccolo America present the third edition of their collaborative film screening series, "Big City Life," beginning April 1.
This year's theme explores how cities are portrayed in contemporary cinema — examining what role the metropolis has played on screen.
Through five films selected by Fondazione Piccolo America, the series investigates the relationship between moving image and urban space, focusing on how the great city functions as a layered, richly present "second protagonist" in cinematic storytelling. Combining screenings with talks, the series introduces audiences to how leading contemporary directors have captured cities around the world as living, ever-changing entities.
The program spans a diverse range of places and imaginative landscapes.
Martin Scorsese's kinetic New York, Mario Martone's secret-filled Naples, Fatih Akin's Istanbul rendered through sound and streetscape, Agnès Varda's restless Paris, and Wong Kar-wai's romantic Hong Kong — each city emerges with vivid presence within its film.
The series opens on April 1 with After Hours (1985), Scorsese's portrait of one wild and bewildering night in New York. On April 9, Nostalgia (2022) explores Naples through memory, identity, and belonging. April 15 and 22 bring the cult documentary Crossing the Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul (2005), which deciphers a Turkish city through its music, and Cléo from 5 to 7 (1962), a vivid real-time portrait of 1960s Paris. The series closes on April 29 with Chungking Express (1994), capturing the energy and fleeting moments of everyday Hong Kong.
Each screening will be followed by a talk session moderated by journalist Mattia Carzaniga, with guests from the film and cultural world to be announced in the coming days. All films are shown in their original language with Italian subtitles, so international visitors can enjoy them as well.
This initiative reflects Armani / Silos' ongoing commitment to supporting younger generations and promoting culture and cinema. Armani / Silos is also, for the fourth consecutive year, supporting Fondazione Piccolo America's free outdoor film festival "Il Cinema in Piazza," scheduled to take place in Rome in the summer of 2026.
Full program details and reservation information are available at armanisilos.com. The Armani / Silos Café will remain open for evening service until the start of each screening.
