The General Incorporated Association 'Market School' held a final activity report meeting for market stakeholders on Saturday, March 21st. Market School is a project to convey the original role and appeal of the market. This initiative is part of the Nippon Foundation's 'Ocean and Japan Project,' which connects people through the sea to pass on a rich and beautiful ocean to the next generation.

What is the 'Market School' Activity?

*This press release is based on the original text written by high school students, with additions and revisions.

"Market School" is a project where high school students collaborate with wholesale businesses (nakagai) at the Yokohama City Central Wholesale Market to convey the market's original role and appeal. While learning about the market, high school students challenge themselves with activities such as 'PR activities,' 'product development,' and 'event planning,' aiming to communicate this to many people. Through these activities, they strive to widely promote fresh fish and the unique vibrancy of the market, while also creating opportunities for people who do not typically visit markets and for restaurant operators to come and conduct transactions. Utilizing the flexible ideas and proactive energy of the younger generation, they are pioneering new possibilities to connect the community and the market, and communicate the market's charm. This release features reports from participating members.

For this final presentation, I worked on creating slides and a script. In the previous mid-term presentation, I had put too much information on the slides, making them difficult to read. To improve this, I focused on extracting the important parts and making them large and easy to see. As a result, when presenting, I was able to look at the attendees rather than just staring at the slides, so I think the presentation itself went better than last time.

I reported on the 'Fish Idea Club' (service) and PR activities. During the Q&A session, I received many suggestions like 'What if you tried this for PR activities?', and I was grateful to feel that these were 'perspectives we couldn't find on our own.' I was also truly happy that the wholesalers, city council members, and other market stakeholders said that our activities were meaningful.

Although I was in charge of PR, this year I went beyond that role and participated in service and product development activities. The knowledge gained from these experiences, and even things that might not seem related to 'Market School' at first glance, were shared with many people at this final presentation.

Following the mid-term presentation, I am full of gratitude for being provided with such a valuable opportunity and for the attendance of so many people. Truly...
