Check Point Research Reports Key Cyber Threats for April 2026: Attacks on Japan Increase by 73% YoY to 2,048 Weekly Average

Check Point Research (CPR) released its global threat intelligence analysis for April 2026, revealing an average of 2,201 cyberattacks per organization weekly worldwide, an 8% year-over-year increase. In Japan, attacks surged by 73% YoY, reaching an average of 2,048 weekly attacks per organization, ranking fifth highest in the APAC region. The report highlights that the education sector remains the most targeted, while Latin America is the most attacked region globally. Furthermore, the integration of generative AI poses continuous data exposure risks, with 1 in 28 prompts carrying high risks of sensitive data leakage. Ransomware activities also expanded, with Qilin and other groups leading the attacks.
