Hoku Energy K.K., the Japanese subsidiary of Hoku Infrastructure Limited (UK), is pleased to announce that its 'Dai-ichi Power Station' has been selected in the 3rd Long-term Decarbonization Power Auction (LTDA) held in fiscal year 2025. This case marks the first time a newly constructed 100% hydrogen-fired thermal power generation project has been selected within Japan's institutional framework.

The 'Dai-ichi Power Station,' located in Aomori Prefecture, aims to meet the growing demand for electricity in Japan and contribute to the achievement of Japan's GX strategy and carbon-neutral goals. We will continue to proceed with business development while prioritizing coexistence with the people of the development region and complying with all laws and regulations.

The capacity awarded to this power station is 106.6MW, and it is scheduled to begin operation in the first half to middle of the 2030 fiscal year. The application period for this system is expected to be 40 years from the start of operations.

Thermal power plants fueled by clean hydrogen, unlike variable power sources such as solar and other renewable energy, can maintain high utilization rates while supplying power stably and flexibly. Therefore, they are expected to contribute to the stabilization of the domestic power grid. They are also expected to play an important role as stable power sources for data centers and advanced industries.
