In 1976, the legendary Geneva-based artist and watch designer Gérald Genta created the Ingenieur SL (Ref. 1832). Its pure form and bold presence were revolutionary and heralded the birth of a new category in the watch industry. Even half a century later, the stainless steel luxury sports watch with an integrated bracelet still retains its brilliance.
In 2023, IWC Schaffhausen revived Gérald Genta’s visionary design as the Ingenieur Automatic 40. A comprehensive redesign was undertaken to respect the unique aesthetic of the original while maintaining the quality of finishing and ensuring ergonomic comfort. Since then, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen has continuously expanded the collection, with the introduction of the Ingenieur Automatic 35, featuring a 35 mm case size, marking a significant milestone. Now, a “pool color” dial spins a new story.
The Ingenieur Automatic 35 (Ref. IW324902) features a robust and durable 35 mm stainless steel case and an integrated bracelet. At its heart is the dial in the fresh new “pool color.” The characteristic “grid” pattern, composed of compact lines and squares, typical of the Ingenieur, creates a distinctive visual depth on the dial. Rhodium-plated hands and applied indices with Super-LumiNova® create an elegant contrast and ensure legibility even in low light conditions. Another design code of the Ingenieur is the bezel design, which is secured to the case ring by five functional screws. The bracelet, connected by central links, fits the wrist supplely and comfortably thanks to its ergonomic design. The inscription “Probus Scafusia” on the crown symbolizes IWC’s unwavering commitment to outstanding craftsmanship and manufacturing expertise.
“The new ‘pool color’ evokes the refreshing, shimmering water of summer and brings a new dimension to the Ingenieur. The dial beautifully captures the light and enhances the clean lines and refined proportions of the integrated bracelet inspired by Gérald Genta,” says Christian Knoop, Creative Director at IWC Schaffhausen.
Captivating play of light across every angle
The Ingenieur Automatic 35 also makes no compromises when it comes to finishing. The skillful combination of different surface treatments creates a beautiful play of light. The case and bezel feature satin and polished finishes, while the central links of the bracelet are polished and the H-links are satin-finished. The automatic movement, with a power reserve of 42 hours, can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back. It is finished with perlage and Côtes de Genève and features a gold-plated rotor.
