Kyushu Mirai Kyoso (Kurume, Fukuoka; Representative Director: Shunsaku Uemura) has collaborated with Nanshu Junior and Senior High School (Kimotsuki, Kagoshima; Principal: Kuninobu Kijima) to co-develop a redesigned 'Space Studies' education program, which the school is implementing starting in the 2026 academic year.
Following its transition to a full junior and senior high integrated education system in April 2026, Nanshu Junior and Senior High School has updated its 'Space Studies' program, which has been in place for 11 years. The curriculum is now reconfigured as a five-year developmental learning process spanning from the first year of junior high through the second year of high school. Keisuke Maeda, a specially appointed associate professor at Kyushu Institute of Technology, has been appointed as the program's director.
In the 2026 academic year, the school will host 17 lectures featuring experts from JAXA, the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, universities, and space-related companies. The program includes hands-on activities such as model rocket construction and launching, CanSat development, and balloon mission planning. In alignment with the Cabinet Office's 'Space Skill Standards,' the program aims to cultivate foundational skills required for the future space industry.
Kyushu Mirai Kyoso aims to contribute to the development of space industry talent and promote space education through these industry-academia-government collaborations.
