The Japan Diabetes Society (JDS) is pleased to announce the selection of its new official mascot and society logo.

This initiative aims to disseminate a correct understanding of diabetes in an accessible way, while serving as a symbol to connect patients, their families, healthcare professionals, and the local community.

Official Mascot

The mascot has been officially named 'Dia Betty.'

The name is derived from the word 'Diabetes,' chosen with the wish that it will be felt with familiarity by a wide range of generations, from children to the elderly.

The character is designed around the concept of 'mutual support' and 'connection' in diabetes treatment. It represents the blue circle as a 'ring baton' connecting to the future, aiming to be a presence that supports those living with diabetes and their families.

Furthermore, it is inspired by the dog, which played a significant role in the history of diabetes research, resulting in a familiar and warm design.

Selection Process

The planning was led by the JDS Public Relations Committee and a working group dedicated to official social media. An open call for mascot designs was initiated in May 2025.

A large number of entries were received, totaling 129 works.

Following a primary selection by the committee and a vote by members, 'Dia Betty' was ultimately chosen as the official mascot.

The member vote received 2,103 ballots, reflecting high participation.

In conjunction with the mascot decision, the development and selection of a new society logo were also carried out and have now been finalized.

New Society Logo

The new society logo was created using the mascot 'Dia Betty' as a motif.

The design incorporates the concepts of 'mutual support,' 'connection,' and 'familiarity' held by 'Dia Betty.'

Additionally, by combining friendliness with high visibility, the society aims to improve its ability to communicate its activities both domestically and internationally.

These will be used sequentially on the society's website, in public relations activities, and at academic conferences.

Future Outlook

Through the new official mascot and logo, the society will strive to expand awareness activities regarding diabetes and promote understanding throughout society.
