Kyotamba Town, Kyoto Prefecture, has established a subsidy to support fieldwork by university students focusing on regional issues. Applications open on June 3, 2026, and run until January 29, 2027. The program aims to foster ongoing connections between students and the region, expand the "relational population," and solve local challenges. Eligible applicants are groups of students from universities, graduate schools, junior colleges, and vocational schools. The subsidy covers up to 50% of accommodation costs (maximum 5,000 yen per person per night, up to 2 nights per trip) and transportation costs (maximum 10,000 yen per person per trip). Each group can receive the grant up to three times per fiscal year. The town, whose fan club "CLUB Kyotamba" exceeds 1,700 members, also plans to introduce a "Hometown Resident Registration System" in 2027. Previous collaborations include projects with Hitotsubashi University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and others. The subsidy aims to strengthen these academic partnerships and provide a platform for students to engage with local communities.
