Professor Tetsuro Mimura, Dean of the Faculty of Bioenvironmental Science at Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS; located in Ukyo-ku, Kyoto; President: Masafumi Maeda), has been appointed as the academic supervisor for the theme pavilion exhibition at the International Horticultural Expo 2027 (GREEN×EXPO 2027).
GREEN×EXPO 2027 is an international exposition to be held in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, from March 19 to September 26, 2027. Its purpose is to contribute to the promotion of international horticulture and landscaping, the creation of lives filled with flowers and greenery, regional and economic development, and the resolution of social issues. The theme pavilion, a project hosted by the organizers, is planned as an immersive exhibition facility that introduces aspects of plants rarely seen, using the scientific perspective of plants with the theme, "All life is connected. Focusing on plants."
In this theme pavilion, Professor Mimura will: 1) provide advice on exhibition concepts and composition from an academic perspective; and 2) confirm the validity and accuracy of exhibition content, including commentary, diagrams, and videos.
Comments from Professor Tetsuro Mimura
I have researched how plants recognize their surrounding environment and how they utilize substances taken from the environment. In the process, I realized that people other than researchers do not fully recognize that plants are also living things. Therefore, apart from my own research, I have also been engaged in activities to help people understand that "plants are the same life as we humans are."
I am very pleased to be able to be involved in the exhibition content that introduces the connection of life centered on plants at the GREEN×EXPO 2027 theme pavilion from the standpoint of a researcher.
