Donald McDonald House Charities Japan (DMHC) and the Tokyo Metropolitan Children's Medical Center (Fuchu, Tokyo) will open the 'Ronald McDonald Family Room Tokyo Metropolitan Children's Medical Center' on Friday, May 15, 2026. The 'Ronald McDonald Family Room' is a place for the families of hospitalized children to rest their minds and bodies. It is a warm, home-like space within the hospital where families can step away from the medical environment to relax, eat, and rest while remaining close to their children. Since 2010, the 'Donald McDonald House Fuchu' has provided lodging for families traveling long distances to support their children. The addition of the 'Family Room' within the hospital further strengthens the rest environment. This is the first time in Japan that both a Family Room and a Donald McDonald House have been established at the same hospital, allowing for multi-faceted support for families in different situations. Accompanied hospitalization, where family members stay overnight in a hospital room to care for their child, is a significant support for the child but places a heavy mental, physical, and financial burden on the family. This has become a 'hidden challenge' in pediatric care. The Tokyo Metropolitan Children's Medical Center provides advanced and specialized acute care for children, with over 7,900 families staying with their children annually. By opening this Family Room, DMHC and the hospital aim to provide a space where families can refresh themselves even when it is difficult to leave the hospital building due to their child's condition. While the 'House' serves as a base for those from far away, the 'Family Room' caters to the need for quick rest regardless of home distance.
