Theatre School 2026

Started in 2019, Rohm Theatre Kyoto's 'Theatre School' will be offered in two courses from fiscal year 2026: 'Deep Dive into Theatre!' and 'Challenge New Expressions!'. With artists active in Japan and abroad as instructors, participants will use their bodies, think, and work together to 'create' in various fields of expression. Additionally, a stage staff workshop will be held with Rohm Theatre Kyoto staff as instructors.

Eligibility 1st year of junior high school to 18 years old (3rd year of high school) *No prior experience required.

Capacity - Deep Dive into Theatre! Course: 20 people - Challenge New Expressions! Course: 20 people - Stage Staff Workshop: Approx. 15 people per session *A lottery will be held if oversubscribed. Priority given to those taking two courses.

Fees - Two courses: 9,000 JPY - One course: 5,000 JPY - Stage Staff Workshop: 1,000 JPY

### Deep Dive into Theatre! Course This course allows participants to experience the creative process of theatre: collecting interesting things from everyday scenes, writing a script, directing, and acting. - Instructor: Takuya Murakawa (Director) - Dates: July 27 (Mon) - 31 (Fri), approx. 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM (with a mini-presentation on the last day) - Venue: North Hall Instructor's Comment: We will create a work in the order of discovering -> recording -> recreating (acting). I want to share with you a method of creating theatre from discoveries, encounters, and coincidences.

### Challenge New Expressions! Course In this course, participants will observe their own bodies, objects, and places to discover new ways of seeing and feeling, and experience the process of creating their own new expressions using body, video, and installations. - Instructors: Pijin Neji (Dancer/Choreographer), Michiko Tsuda (Artist) - Dates: August 18 (Tue) - 22 (Sat) (with a mini-presentation on the last day) - Venue: North Hall Instructor's Comment (Pijin Neji): We will observe and use our discoveries as clues to create 'choreography' that guides movement. The aim is to generate new movements. Instructor's Comment (Michiko Tsuda): Let's observe familiar spaces and capture our own world. We will confront ourselves and move our bodies through video.
