Background and Characteristics of the Exhibition

The Kohoh Miya Cup Nippon Budokan Calligraphy Exhibition has been held annually since 1985 with the aim of fostering the sound mind and body of youth through calligraphy and brushwork, and cultivating rich sensibilities among the populace.

Furthermore, this exhibition receives over 20,000 entries each year, combining both brush and pen calligraphy sections. The highest award in the brush calligraphy section, the Kohoh Miya Prize, is accompanied by the 'Kohoh Miya Cup'.

About Judging Methods, Awards, and Eligibility

All works are judged rigorously and impartially. In addition to the Kohoh Miya Prize, individual awards such as the Prime Minister's Award, Nippon Budokan Grand Prize, Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the House of Councillors Awards, and Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award are selected, along with group awards such as the National Excellent Group Award.

There are two categories: 'Brush Calligraphy Section' and 'Pen Calligraphy Section'. Anyone from preschoolers and elementary students to adults can submit entries in either section. Please send works completed at calligraphy schools nationwide, schools, or at home to the Nippon Budokan.

Top prize winners will have their works displayed at the exhibition held at Nippon Budokan on August 23 (Sunday) and can also participate in the awards ceremony.

About Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Nippon Budokan

The Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Nippon Budokan was established in 1962 with the aim of promoting traditional martial arts in Japan, fostering the sound development of youth, and contributing widely to world peace and welfare. It was certified as a public interest incorporated foundation in 2013. Since its establishment, it has not only conducted martial arts promotion activities but also expanded into activities promoting 'calligraphy,' a traditional culture deeply related to martial arts.
