The Color Therapist Association® (Hokkaido Color Design Laboratory), an organization dedicated to the research and promotion of color therapy and psychology, has announced the launch of a national survey titled "Lucky Colors and Psychology." This initiative commemorates the release of their original "Color Reading Cards" on June 1, 2026.
The survey seeks broad public input on the relationship between individuals and color, covering topics such as "colors that inexplicably catch one's eye," "lucky colors in fortune-telling," and "fandom colors" (oshi-iro). As an incentive, ten survey participants will be selected via lottery to receive the newly released Color Reading Cards.
While interest in color—ranging from personal color analysis to color psychology—has grown significantly in recent years, empirical data on how colors truly influence mood and behavior remains limited. This study aims to visualize the connection between color and psychology, exploring its potential in communication and self-care. The survey takes approximately three minutes to complete via a dedicated web form, with results expected to be published this fall.
The "Color Reading Cards" (priced at 1,320 JPY) feature 14 colors and 168 keywords designed to help users identify their subconscious feelings. Unlike traditional fortune-telling, the product emphasizes self-awareness and emotional organization. Furthermore, these cards serve as instructional material for the "Color Therapist Course." This educational program, which has been active since 2015 in the fields of education and social welfare, is currently being restructured into a three-step correspondence course (Basic, Advance, Master) scheduled for a July 2026 launch.
Under the motto "Color is a supplement to make the heart smile," the association plans to utilize the survey findings for future product development and educational activities. The representative of the association stated that colors are not merely a matter of preference but reflections of one's mental state, expressing hope that this survey will encourage participants to reflect on their own psychological relationship with color.
