Kano Kensetsu Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kochi City; CEO: Yoichi Nakazawa) has completed the extension design, interior wood design, and construction supervision for 'Sushi Iwai,' a sushi restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand. The restaurant is located on the first floor of the RC-structured 'SOVA HOTEL BANGKOK' and extensively utilizes timber sourced from Niyodogawa Town, Kochi Prefecture.

The project features a structure built using traditional Japanese post-and-beam methods, with an exterior finished in 'Yakisugi' (charred cedar), a traditional Japanese technique. This creates a space where visitors can experience Japanese wood culture firsthand. An opening reception was held on May 23, 2026, attended by numerous stakeholders and guests.

The design was led by Masaki Kaneko and Studio Moon (CEO: Masateru Hirano). Local construction was handled by Peet Asia Co., Ltd., while wood processing was managed by Ikegawa Wood Industry (CEO: Yoshihiro Ohara). Vanguard Recreate (CEO: Masakazu Shibuta) also participated as a support company.

The project originated when Shunya Oshima, representative of Sushi Iwai (Thailand), was deeply impressed by the 'Niyodogawa Stud House' in Kochi, leading to the vision of creating a sushi restaurant that highlights the beauty of wood. Supported by Kochi Prefecture and Niyodogawa Town, this project serves as a model for promoting and expanding the international market for regional timber. It also addresses environmental challenges unique to Thailand, such as high humidity and termite protection, while demonstrating the potential of wooden architecture in urban overseas environments.
