Okayama University Elementary School, part of the National University Corporation Okayama University, held a "Traffic Safety Class" on May 12, 2026. The event included a traffic safety lecture for all grades by traffic instructors from the city's Life Safety Division in the gymnasium, and a bus class for first graders on the school grounds. In the lecture for all grades, instructors taught students in grades 1-3 about how to ride buses, proper manners, and correct walking methods. Students in grades 4-6 learned about bicycle inspection, proper riding techniques, and the consequences of traffic accidents, emphasizing the importance of following traffic rules. In the bus class for first graders, with the cooperation of a bus company, three route buses were brought to the school grounds. Students learned about bus manners and how to ride through quizzes conducted by the Okayama City Traffic Policy Division. They also experienced boarding in wheelchairs and asking the driver for directions via intercom. Furthermore, they practiced taking numbered tickets, boarding the bus, and sitting in the driver's seat to understand the driver's field of view, learning how to ride buses comfortably and safely. After the experience, children shared comments such as, "It was fun to ride the bus. I learned that areas near the bus are hard for the driver to see, so I will be careful not to walk there," showing that their awareness of traffic safety is steadily growing.
