Dainippon Toryo Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka; President: Takayuki Sato) has signed a sponsorship agreement with artist GEN (hereinafter referred to as GEN), and will implement initiatives to communicate the potential of paint through art.

We believe that paint has the power to color communities and spaces, and enrich people's hearts. Furthermore, paint not only adds color but also protects buildings and objects, and has functions that respond to challenges faced by lifestyles, industries, and the environment. In this initiative, to convey these possibilities of paint to more people, we commissioned GEN, who has been active in engaging people and communities through art, to create a new work titled "This World That Keeps Turning, and Thus Becomes One."

The completed work is scheduled to be deployed across various communication tools such as original paper bags, integrated reports, social media, and our website.

Background of the Initiative

Through paint, we aim to respond to the challenges faced by lifestyles, industries, and the environment. In recent years, we have also been working on developing paints that address social issues, such as labor and personnel saving, and carbon neutrality. On the other hand, the functions of paint are not often consciously recognized in daily life.

GEN during an interview

GEN has continued activities to revitalize communities by creating works with local people in places like Nepal and Cebu Island, adding color to towns and generating interest and flow among people. We believe that GEN's activities, which color communities and engage people through art, embody one aspect of the potential of paint as we envision it.

Based on this belief, we have signed a sponsorship agreement with GEN. In this initiative, we will support GEN's activities and have commissioned the creation of a new work that will serve as an opportunity for more people to learn about the potential of paint.

About the Work

This work is an original piece created with GEN's unique interpretation and expression, sharing the potential of paint as envisioned by our company as a starting point.

In the background, various colors are depicted mixing together in a clockwise circle. Through a composition where different colors overlap and create a single flow, it expresses the image of diverse ways of being moving towards the future together.

Comment from GEN

Through art, I myself have continued activities that add color to towns and engage with people and communities. While listening to the stories of everyone at DNT, I learned that paint is not just something that adds color, but it has functions such as mold resistance and protecting buildings from harsh environments like sea breezes, and can support people's lives. It can not only color communities and spaces but also protect people's lives. I became very interested in such possibilities of paint.

What DNT does in relation to people's lives through paint, and what I do in relation to people and communities through art. Although the forms and actions are different, I felt a connection in that we are both heading towards a bright future in our respective ways. In the work, I have expressed the mixing and unification of these different thoughts and movements through a composition where various colors draw a circle clockwise.

Future Developments

The completed work is scheduled to be deployed across various media, including our original paper bags, integrated reports, social media, website, and magazine articles.

Furthermore, in the future, we will consider initiatives that combine art and paint through collaboration with GEN. We will explore collaborations through our unique technologies and materials, such as utilizing surplus paint that can be used in volunteer activities, and activities that leverage the features of functional paints such as heat shielding, mold resistance, and high durability.
