Josai University (Sakado City, Saitama Prefecture / Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) will hold a trial session for the next-generation sport "VR Taekwondo" at its open campus event in August 2026.

VR Taekwondo is a new sport where participants enjoy matches using dedicated VR equipment and sensors, reflecting their body movements onto an avatar in a virtual space. It is gaining attention as a sport that fuses digital technology with physical exercise, and is also expected to be an inclusive sport that is less influenced by age, gender, or physical differences.

Furthermore, VR Taekwondo has been adopted as an official event for the 20th Asian Games to be held in Aichi and Nagoya in 2026, and further development is anticipated.

Josai University is focusing on the potential of "future sports" that integrate sports and technology, and is supporting the spread of a new sports culture by promoting the appeal of VR Taekwondo.

Experience Future Sports at the Open Campus

At this open campus, high school students and their guardians will be offered the opportunity to actually experience VR Taekwondo.

No special athletic experience is required, and even first-time participants can try it with support from staff. The aim is to allow participants to feel the possibilities brought about by the fusion of sports and technology through the new experiences created by future sports.
