Tezukayama Gakuin University [Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture / President: Ryuozo Nishikawa] will launch a recurrent education program for working adults starting September 20, 2026, using the off-campus hub 'Izumigaoka Station Commons,' directly connected to Izumigaoka Station, as its campus. This program is part of the university's 'Well-being Co-Creation Hub' initiative, designed to connect the university with the local community, foster new relationships and activities, and nurture regional well-being. Centered on the increasingly important concept of 'well-being,' this program supports working adults in taking their next career step—not just through learning, but by developing practical skills to identify organizational and community needs and challenges, collaborate with others, and build better organizations and societies. Applications open on July 11, 2026, with early applicants eligible for discounted fees.

Application guidelines are available here.

Why Well-being Now? ■

Well-being refers to a state of physical, mental, and social well-being, encompassing not only short-term happiness but also long-term fulfillment, purpose in life, and sustained well-being. Well-being can be broadly categorized into 'subjective well-being' and 'objective well-being.' Subjective well-being focuses on one's current feelings, while objective well-being is assessed through measurable indicators such as GDP or healthy life expectancy—factors assumed to correlate with happiness. In the 2026 World Happiness Report, Japan ranked 61st out of 147 countries (down from 55th the previous year), suggesting that happiness cannot be achieved solely through economic wealth or material possessions. The emergence of the novel coronavirus has triggered a global turning point, and modern society is now overflowing with changes—shifting values, AI advancements, super-aging populations, and work-style reforms. In this turbulent era, 'well-being' is precisely the mindset we need, along with the ability to guide society toward a better future through well-being.
