Morimura Gakuen School Corporation (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture) held a special lecture on July 1, 2026, for 201 second-year junior high school students, presented by NGK Corporation, a company within the Morimura Group.
The lecture aimed to have students reflect on the spirit of the founder, Ichizaemon Morimura, which they learned about in their first year of junior high school, and to understand how his philosophy is carried on in modern corporate activities and leads to solutions for social issues.
On the day, three employees from NGK Corporation, including a Senior Managing Executive Officer, visited the school and introduced the company's journey of continuously tackling societal challenges through its ceramic technology, cultivated over more than 100 years.
The lecture traced the company's history of developing its business in response to the social issues of each era, starting with the manufacture of "insulators" that support Japan's power infrastructure, to improving air quality with automotive exhaust gas purification filters (Honeyceram), to ceramics for semiconductor manufacturing equipment that supports the AI era, and further to DAC (Direct Air Capture) technology that directly captures carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The lecturer conveyed the message, "The reason the company has been able to grow is not just for its own profit, but because it has continuously faced the social issues that society demanded at each time."
The lecturer also stated, "Morimura Gakuen's founding spirit of 'Independent Self-Reliance' means thinking for oneself, acting for oneself, and being useful to society. The school motto 'Honesty, Kindness, Diligence' represents a commitment to quality, contribution to society, and a continuous effort to improve skills. Both of these deeply overlap with the values that NGK cherishes," highlighting how the founder's aspirations continue to be passed down in the company's current activities.
Furthermore, during the Q&A session with the students, there was a lively exchange of opinions on "the skills needed to tackle challenges without clear answers" and "initiatives for environmental problems." NGK Corporation sent the message, "In the future society, it is important not to wait for the right answer, but to think for yourself, take on challenges, and act." This provided the students with a valuable opportunity to consider how they themselves can contribute to solving social issues in the future.
