Setouchi Tourism College, Anabuki Gakuen (headquartered in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture; President: Katsumi Yasumura) will host a 3-day, 2-night inquiry-based program titled 'Kagawa Local Tourism Boot Camp' for high school students in Kagawa Prefecture from Tuesday, August 18, to Thursday, August 20, 2026, in Kotohira Town.
Amid growing concerns over youth outmigration from the prefecture, this hands-on program enables high school students to interact with local professionals and university students while developing and proposing new tourism plans that leverage Kotohira Town's tourism resources. The program aims to help students experience firsthand that Kagawa offers meaningful fields for challenge and engagement, fostering local attachment and encouraging future in-prefecture settlement.
This inaugural program in 2026 will allow high school students to freely choose themes through fieldwork in Kotohira Town and lectures by local practitioners. Students will form teams with college students to develop innovative ideas that enhance the town’s appeal and contribute to regional revitalization. On the final day, each team will deliver a presentation, showcasing fresh perspectives and proposals addressing local attractions and challenges. This is a true PBL (Problem-Based Learning) program that guides students through the process of discovering, analyzing, and proposing solutions for regional issues.
On the first day, guests include Fukura P, a member of QuizKnock and native of Kagawa Prefecture, and Ryutaro Ike, Kagawa Prefecture Tourism Community Development Manager and 28th-generation head of Ikedana Hyakusho Iketen Store. They will share their personal journeys and experiences, from high school to the present, highlighting their connections to the region. Additionally, cultural experiences unique to Kotohira—such as the traditional parlor game 'Konpira Funefune' and a backstage tour of Konpira Kabuki theater—will immerse participants in local culture. On the final day, teams will present their proposals to local stakeholders, offering youth-driven perspectives on the town’s future.
Through this program, the college aims to create opportunities for high school students to independently discover the charm and potential of their region, experience the value of learning and challenging themselves locally, and contribute to nurturing future leaders for Kagawa Prefecture in collaboration with local communities, government, and businesses.
