Joban Kosan Co., Ltd., based in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, has announced a leadership transition for its exclusive dancing team, the 'Spa Resort Hawaiians Dancing Team.' Following the retirement of the current captain and solo dancer Rehiva Yuki, Puamelia Mayu will take over as the 21st captain starting Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
New captain Puamelia Mayu, a Fukushima native, joined the Joban Music and Dance Academy as a 54th-class student in April 2018 and made her stage debut in August of the same year. She rose to sub-captain in 2023 and became a solo dancer in 2024. In her inaugural comment, she expressed her commitment to leading with pride and delivering performances filled with love for the audience.
The new structure also introduces Mahina Arei as a new sub-captain, joining current sub-captains KOYUKI and CHIHARU to form a three-person support team for the captain. Additionally, CHIHO and AZUMI from the 56th class—who joined during the pandemic in 2020—have been selected as new solo dancers.
Solo dancers hold a symbolic status within the team, being the only ones permitted to perform 'Taneimua,' the iconic Tahitian solo dance featured in the movie 'Hula Girls.' As the team enters its 62nd year, it remains dedicated to bringing joy and energy to audiences across Japan under this refreshed leadership.
