The hotel has completed the full renovation of its sankara Villa Suite (1 room) and sankara Junior Suites (3 rooms), with stays commencing from the end of April 2026. To allow guests to deeply embrace Yakushima's nature from within their rooms, the renovations incorporate unique Yakushima features throughout, such as ocean-view private saunas, hot spring sleeping baths, and Yakusugi cedar monuments.

Renovation Highlights (Updating Experience Value)

This renovation aimed to refresh the guest rooms of the sankara Villa Suite and sankara Junior Suites, tailored to their respective characteristics, into spaces where guests can experience Yakushima's nature with all five senses. The design seeks to make the time spent in the guest room itself a part of the Yakushima travel experience.

・sankara Villa Suite (104㎡/1 room) - Inviting the sea and wind into the room, a time for rejuvenation -

The hotel's second most luxurious room category, the sankara Suite, has been reborn as a living space equipped with an ocean-view private sauna. The bathroom, with its open ceiling and wide-cut window frames allowing light and wind to pass through, features a newly installed outdoor bath available 24 hours a day. Guests can spend time quietly rejuvenating their mind and body in the air of Yakushima, moving leisurely between the sauna and the bathtub.

Furthermore, by expanding the bedroom from one to two rooms and adding a swanel (auxiliary bed), the maximum occupancy has been increased from the traditional 3 guests to up to 6 guests. This spacious suite is one of the few in Yakushima that is easy for families or multi-generational groups to use. A Yakusugi cedar monument is placed within the room, adding a sense of the island's timelessness to the space.

Bedroom Private Sauna/Outdoor Bath

The popular sankara Junior Suite, an entry-level suite model, has had its bathroom expanded, featuring a newly installed wide sleeping bath bathtub where one person can lie down and two can comfortably soak deeply. "Yakushima Onsen" hot spring water is transported and available 24 hours a day as an anytime bath.

Yakushima Onsen has its source on the premises of "samana hotel Yakushima," operated by the Hirakawa Shoji Group. It is known for its alkaline, smooth texture and was selected as 3rd in the Kyushu/Okinawa area in the 2024 "Onsen General Election" beauty skin category, and 5th in 2025.

Additionally, by adding more beds, stays for up to 3 guests are now possible. Guests can enjoy the sunrise over the sea throughout the year from their rooms. Yakushima Onsen, Yakusugi cedar monuments, and other unique Yakushima comforts are arranged throughout the room to provide a sense of tranquility.

The highest category suite at sankara hotel & spa Yakushima. Guests staying in this suite receive a treatment at the spa "sankara sana" (60 minutes per person per night) as a special stay benefit. "sankara sana" is the hotel's unique spa brand, combining Yakushima's natural ingredients with traditional Ayurvedic techniques. Treatments are performed in the in-spa room within the guest room.
