For a long time, young people in Japan have been forced to choose between two paths: higher education or employment. Pausing was seen as 'falling behind,' and a blank period was treated as a stain on one's resume. However, new data now challenges this conventional wisdom. A survey of 210 young people who experienced a "gap year" found their average satisfaction to be 9.2 out of 10. Despite 80% feeling anxious, almost all of them found value in their experience. The report, based on their real voices, analyzes the values, anxieties, and possibilities behind taking a gap year, proposing it not as something for special people, but as an open option for everyone.
