Nippon Paper Papermaking Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Akihiko Watanabe, hereinafter "the Company") has cooperated with the "FANCL Recycle Program" promoted by FANCL Corporation (Headquarters: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; President and CEO: Hideki Mitsuhashi, hereinafter "FANCL") to produce nameplates using used cleansing oil containers as raw material. This initiative embodies the commitment of both companies to promote the circular economy of plastic resources and reduce environmental impact.
Used cosmetic containers transformed into nameplates that support working people
FANCL, one of Japan's leading cosmetic and health food manufacturers, has set "sustainable circulation of containers and packaging" as one of its materialities and is working to reduce plastic usage from the perspective of 4R (Reduce/Reuse/Recycle/Renewable). As part of this effort, they operate the "FANCL Recycle Program," which collects used cosmetic containers at directly managed stores nationwide and recycles them into items such as plant pots.
The collected used containers are material-recycled through processes such as sorting, washing, drying, and pulverizing at FANCL Smile Co., Ltd., a special subsidiary of FANCL, and reborn as new products.
The Company Group offers a wide range of environmentally friendly products, including paper, and provides various solutions such as material recycling to address environmental issues like CO2 emission reduction. Upon receiving a request from FANCL to "recycle used containers of Mild Cleansing Oil into nameplates," the Company sympathized with FANCL's stance and passion for environmental issues and participated in this program. The nameplates were completed and delivered in January 2026.
The completed nameplates are molded by mixing PET material derived from "Mild Cleansing Oil" containers, which serve as recycled raw material, with ABS resin. The Company was responsible for selecting processing companies and, during the prototyping stage, adjusted the mixing ratio of PET material in five stages, from 20% to 100%, after repeated consideration. As a result, nameplates containing 90% recycled PET material were completed, achieving both stable color and a high recycling rate.
The Nippon Paper Papermaking Group will continue to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society and the reduction of environmental impact by proposing material recycling and providing environmentally friendly solutions.
