Tableware and Knife Specialty Store "Kappa Maeda" to Release Mino Ware Collection Inspired by Hokusai's Masterpieces on July 10 (Fri)

Kappa Maeda, a specialty store for Japanese tableware and knives located in Tokyo's Kappabashi Kitchen Town, will launch a Mino ware collection inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's representative works on July 10, 2026 (Fri).

This collection is based on the design of "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," one of the most globally recognized masterpieces from Katsushika Hokusai's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," a prominent ukiyo-e artist of the late Edo period. While incorporating the dynamic wave expressions and iconic composition of Mount Fuji in a navy-based artwork, it fuses the essence of "calligraphy works" created by the owner, Jun Maeda, who is also active as a calligrapher, and has been re-engineered into a monochrome design that harmonizes with contemporary dining tables.

Furthermore, this product is developed as a special specification tailored exclusively for Kappa Maeda. It is a special collection that can only be purchased at Kappa Maeda worldwide, merging the reliable craftsmanship of Mino ware, Hokusai's famous paintings, and the owner's sensibility.

The manufacturing is done in Mino, Gifu Prefecture, known as one of Japan's leading ceramic producing areas. The lineup includes two sizes: a 3.5-inch plate, convenient for use as a side dish or confectionery plate, and a 6-inch plate, suitable for a wide range of dishes such as fried foods, simmered dishes, and sashimi. The base colors are available in white and black.

Additionally, all products feature a Mount Fuji motif and "Made In Japan" graphics on the bottom, creating a special feel unique to this collection. The design has been meticulously crafted down to the finest details.

This collection, which merges Japan's leading artistic works with traditional ceramics, proposes new value to domestic and international customers, not only as tableware to brighten daily meals but also as a piece that allows them to feel the charm of Japanese culture.
