Shiitake Creative, a company specializing in global branding and marketing, has officially opened entries for the 6th 'Japan Travel Awards' in 2027. The awards are open to any region or business providing attractive tourism experiences, regardless of scale, and entry is free of charge. The deadline for applications is Friday, July 3rd. Established in 2021, the awards aim to 'create a better society through tourism.' The program identifies and honors 'Kando-chi' (moving destinations) that practice inclusivity, environmental sustainability, and respect for diverse needs. Unlike industry-focused awards, the judging process is conducted from a 'pure traveler's perspective,' ensuring that winners are appealing to both domestic and international tourists. Eligible applicants include municipalities, tourism associations, DMOs, accommodations, and tourism content providers. The schedule includes an entry period from June 1st to July 3rd, a document screening phase, the announcement of finalists on August 14th, on-site inspections, and the final announcement of winners in early January 2027. The judging panel consists of experts well-versed in the Japanese tourism industry, led by Jury Chair Allie Hongo. There are no fees involved, as the goal is to revitalize the Japanese tourism industry through fair and equal evaluation.
