Research findings on extract of 'Hebesu', a citrus fruit from Hyuga City, Miyazaki, published in international academic journal

Himuka Farm Co., Ltd. (Hyuga City, Miyazaki Prefecture; Representative: Masahito Uchiyama) announced that research findings on 'Hebesu extract (HBS)', which the company supported by providing samples, have been published in the international academic journal 'Anatomy & Cell Biology'.

This research was conducted by a joint Korean-Japanese research team centered around Yonsei University in South Korea and the Uchiyama Construction Group. It focused on the flavonoid components contained in the Japanese-native citrus fruit 'Hebesu' and verified its effects on breast cancer, liver cancer, and lung cancer cell lines. Masahito Uchiyama, representative of the Uchiyama Construction Group, also served as a co-author and played a central role from the overall concept design to the final proofreading of the paper.

In the study, it was confirmed that Hebesu extract (HBS) dose-dependently decreased the survival rate of cancer cells and increased the cell proliferation marker 'Ki-67' decrease and the apoptosis-related marker 'caspase-3'. Furthermore, the suppression of the expression of cancer-related genes such as SMO, KRAS, and BRAF was also reported.

The paper suggests the possibility that flavonoid components abundantly contained in Hebesu, such as narirutin and hesperidin, are acting complexly and synergistically, and further verification through in vivo tests and clinical research is expected in the future.
