Bihan Corporation is a company that operates supermarkets in Yamada Town, Iwate Prefecture. During the mid-Edo period, a person moved from Owari (Aichi Prefecture), far away, to Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture, in Sanriku, and started a store called "Owari-ya." Eventually, in the late Edo period, the store was named "Bihan" by taking one character each from "Owari-ya" and the name of successive family heads, "Hanzo." The original product, "Yamada no Shoyu," is a popular sweet soy sauce, rare in Tohoku, with strong fans not only locally but also nationwide.
