Yurarisu Co., Ltd. (Akishima, Tokyo; CEO: Shuntaro Kawamura) has announced a strategic collaboration with imp Support Center, led by Infection Management Certified Nurse Sachiko Ito, to provide specialized support and information regarding urine collection and testing in elderly care facilities.

This partnership combines infection control expertise with Yurarisu's proprietary urine collection support pad, "Yurarisu®," to improve operational standards in medical and nursing care environments.

Background: Challenges in Urine Testing for Seniors In elderly care, improper practices such as using non-sterile urine samples collected from diapers for bacterial cultures have been reported. Such practices often lead to inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions, increasing the risk of drug-resistant bacteria and placing unnecessary burdens on both residents and facility staff.

Yurarisu has developed a specialized pad that allows for non-invasive liquid urine collection directly inside diapers. imp Support Center brings seven years of experience in providing infection control consulting and BCP manual support for small hospitals and elderly facilities. By joining forces, the two entities aim to resolve structural issues in clinical workflows.

This includes guidelines on utilizing Yurarisu® for screening purposes (such as reagent strips) while ensuring sterile collection methods are used for cultures as per national guidelines like the "Manual for Antimicrobial Stewardship."

2. Professional Network Outreach Through imp Support Center’s community of healthcare professionals, the collaboration will introduce Yurarisu® to small hospitals and home nursing services. The goal is to design operational flows that reduce the burden on patients while ensuring accurate diagnostic pathways.

Clinical Application of Yurarisu® Research indicates that urine collected via cotton-based pads (like Yurarisu®) provides reliable results for reagent strip screenings. However, it is not intended for sterile cultures. This collaboration emphasizes the appropriate use of pads for screening, followed by professional catheterization when a definitive diagnosis is required.
