NTT-ME Starts First On-Site PPA Renewable Energy Supply to Zushi City Public Facilities

NTT-ME Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Takashi Ikeda; hereinafter "NTT-ME") will commence its first on-site Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) based renewable energy (hereinafter "RE") power supply to public facilities in Zushi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, on April 1, 2026. This initiative aims to contribute to the realization of Zushi City's "Challenge! Zushi Carbon Neutral" goal. This marks NTT-ME's first endeavor in supplying RE power through the PPA model.

Outline of This Project Zushi City declared "Challenge! Zushi Carbon Neutral 2050" on January 31, 2022, aiming for virtually zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through the concerted efforts of citizens and businesses. This project is one of the initiatives to achieve the city's goals. It involves the introduction of solar power generation equipment and storage batteries under a PPA scheme at Zushi City Zushi Elementary School. This will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the use of RE power and enhance regional resilience by securing power during disasters. The RE power generated by the solar power equipment installed under this project will be utilized at Zushi Elementary School and two other facilities within the same premises, including the Zushi Cultural Plaza Hall and the Citizen Exchange Center. This is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 35 tons annually across the three facilities, totaling about 692 tons over 20 years. Furthermore, by installing emergency power outlets in the gymnasium and school buildings, which serve as evacuation centers, it will be possible to charge communication devices like PCs and smartphones and secure power for essential equipment, leading to improved resilience during disasters.

About NTT-ME's On-Site PPA PPA stands for Power Purchase Agreement. NTT-ME's on-site PPA for public facilities simultaneously achieves decarbonization and resilience improvement. Efforts to Strengthen Disaster Preparedness with Four Cities and One Town in Miura Peninsula The NTT East Group is promoting "disaster-resilient community development" that addresses the unique disaster risks of the peninsula region, based on disaster cooperation agreements with Yokosuka City, Kamakura City, Zushi City, Miura City, and Hayama Town in the Miura Peninsula. NTT-ME also supports the realization of wide-area cooperation during disasters through demonstration experiments and disaster drills. In this initiative, Zushi City is focusing on "strengthening lifeline infrastructure." This includes conducting demonstration experiments and sharing results and challenges regarding (1) securing communication infrastructure in emergencies and (2) securing power supply from solar power generation. This project specifically promotes these efforts. Through such collaborative initiatives with local communities and municipalities, the NTT East Group will contribute to the realization of a disaster-resilient society, in addition to promoting decarbonization.

Overview of Zushi City Zushi City is located at the base of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture, bordering Yokohama City, Kamakura City, Hayama Town, and Yokosuka City. With JR Yokosuka Line and Keikyu Zushi Line running through the city, it boasts high transportation convenience, taking approximately 30 minutes to Yokohama and 60 minutes to Tokyo/Shibuya, and has developed as a commuter town. Even today, it is chosen by new residents as a "town where one can commute to the city center while enjoying the sea and mountains."
