Okeanos Inc. was co-founded by Hirota, a former Japan national lifesaver, and Utsunomiya, a surfer. With the company name "OKEANOS" (Oceanus), the Greek god of the sea, and a firm mission and resolve to "create a business that would not shame the god of the sea," we will launch the sunglasses "Drift." utilizing "ArgoDryasTM," Japan's first* biomass plastic material incorporating driftwood, on July 9, 2026 (Thu) via our brand website.

◼️ Development Background (The Challenge of Driftwood)

In recent years, due to large typhoons and heavy rains caused by climate change, a large amount of driftwood washed down from mountains cannot be processed.

According to the "Manual for Biomass Utilization of Trees in Rivers and Dam Driftwood" by the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, approximately 90,000 to 300,000 tons of driftwood wash ashore nationwide annually.

If the washed-up driftwood cannot be processed, it can have a wide range of serious impacts, including environmental degradation around coastlines and dam lakes due to foul odors and water quality deterioration caused by the proliferation of organisms, obstruction of power generation due to blockage of water intakes at hydroelectric power plants, and even a crisis in stable water supply to residents due to intake disruptions for tap water.

Furthermore, the processing of driftwood typically involves "incineration," which incurs enormous costs and CO2 emissions.

Our company focused on these challenges posed by driftwood and developed the unique material "ArgoDryasTM," a blend of driftwood and biomass plastic. By launching the sunglasses "Drift." that adopt this new material, we aim to reduce driftwood processing costs and contribute to decarbonization.

These sunglasses were born from the simple desire to "leave beautiful oceans for future generations," erasing the boundary between daily life and the sea.

We believe that the moment someone picks them up and briefly thinks of the sea, that fleeting movement of the heart will eventually become a great wave connecting beautiful oceans to posterity.

◼️ Product Features

1. New Material "ArgoDryasTM" Using Driftwood, Japan's First (Internal Survey) *Trademark application pending

In collaboration with Hoden Precision Processing Research Institute Co., Ltd.,

we developed "ArgodryasTM," Japan's first material blending driftwood and biomass plastic.

The frame of our new product, the sunglasses "Drift.," uses ArgoDryasTM.

2. "Groove" Design Ideal for Strap Attachment *Patent pending

To prevent loss during water activities or at festivals where movement is expected, we have incorporated a unique "groove" on the side of the frame for strap attachment.

We pursued an angle design that prevents the strap from interfering and combined it with original metal embellishments to achieve both functionality and a unique, special appearance.

3. Original Lens Color "NAGISA" (Calm Purple) that "Beautifully Reflects the Sea"

All lenses are polarized and photochromic, designed for use by the seaside. Furthermore, as the founding members spend their daily lives by the sea, we created the original color "NAGISA" (Calm Purple) with the desire to see the sea more beautifully.

4. Refined Texture Achieved Through "5 Times" the Usual Prototyping

We wanted to beautifully express the texture of driftwood, created over long periods by nature. With this sole focus, we repeated prototyping and fine adjustments, which amounted to five times the usual new product development.

This is a unique texture that allows you to feel the breath of driftwood, achieved through relentless pursuit without compromise.

5. World's First "Serial Number" Engraved

Products utilizing natural materials like driftwood have unique expressions for each item.

Respecting this individuality, each frame is engraved with a unique serial number.

We imbue each piece with our pride and wishes, so that it becomes a one-of-a-kind partner for its owner.

6. Ergonomic Design Thoughtfully Crafted for Ocean Lovers

Our engineers and designers pursued functional beauty, making them desirable for use by the sea.

The calculated temple shape fits gently on the head, allowing for smooth removal.

Angles are precisely adjusted in millimeters from the groove and plate to the temple, harmonizing the entire design beautifully.

It has a refined silhouette with no flaws from any angle.

◼️ Collaboration with Kanagawa Prefecture's Resource Circulation Promotion Division (2025 Fiscal Year YAK Adopted)

Kanagawa Prefecture has been promoting open innovation between venture companies and large corporations/local governments for seven years to accelerate the growth of venture companies.

Last year, our company was selected for the "Yell 'Government x Venture' Alliance Kanagawa (YAK)" as a project contributing to decarbonization promotion. During the project's advancement, the interpretation of "whose driftwood it is" became a challenge. However, through discussions among stakeholders and clarification of legal interpretations, we have created a path for stable supply of driftwood as a material.
