The IoT Certification Committee FDE Certification Project has uniquely defined the 'Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)' as a new talent profile for the DX/AX era, considering the specific context of Japan. It has announced the 'FDE Certification Framework' as the first qualification system* in the country dedicated to developing and evaluating this role.
This system is designed to evaluate not just people who 'can use AI,' but those who 'can continuously generate business results using AI agents.' It uses a three-layer evaluation model—validating knowledge, application/practical skills, and actual outcomes—to visualize outcome-oriented talent in the AI era.
While DX promotion and generative AI adoption are rapidly advancing, many organizations struggle with transitioning from Proof of Concept (PoC) to production, field adoption, and achieving measurable results. The FDE framework addresses this. An FDE is a professional responsible for designing AI-driven business transformations, implementing them, embedding them in the field, and ensuring continuous success.
[FDE Framework Stages] - Stage 1 (DESIGN): Analyze business tasks and redesign processes with an AI-first approach. - Stage 2 (BUILD): Construct mechanisms utilizing AI and digital technologies. - Stage 3 (EMBED): Ensure the system is adopted in the field for continuous use. - Stage 4 (SCALE): Reproducibly scale outcomes across the organization to achieve sustained value creation.
The essential characteristic of this role is the required responsibility for 'EMBED (Embedding/Adoption)' and 'SCALE (Expanding results/Organizational scaling).' The FDE system evaluates professionals across three tiers: Knowledge, Practical Ability, and Outcome Track Record.
