Sony's E-book Store 'Reader Store' Reading & Bookshelf App 'Reader' Gets Major Revamp! Enhanced Usability with Improved Home Screen and Bookshelf Editing Features!

Sony Music Entertainment Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Atsuhiko Iwakami) has announced a major update to its smartphone reading app 'Reader' for its comprehensive e-book store 'Reader Store,' effective today, July 13 (Monday).

The latest version of the app is now available as of July 13. However, due to the distribution systems of Google Play Store and App Store, it may take up to one week for the update button to appear. If the latest version is not yet visible in the store, please check back after a few days.

Home Screen Becomes More Convenient!

The 'Home Screen,' the first thing users see when opening the app, has been enhanced. The convenient 'Auto-Sorting' section, which automatically organizes purchased books, is now displayed by genre floors of 'Reader Store,' allowing users to quickly access books in their preferred genres without hesitation.

The size of book covers (thumbnails) displayed on the home screen and bookshelf can now be customized on the Android version as well. Users can switch based on preference—for example, reducing thumbnail size to prioritize overview visibility when wanting to see many books at a glance.

Finding Desired Books Just Got Easier!

Filtering functions have been significantly enhanced, such as instantly displaying books from a specific genre or prioritizing unread books. This makes it easier to find the right book based on mood or purpose. Additional sorting options have been added, including an index (e.g., gojūon ordering) for author names. Simply tap the initial letter of the desired author to smoothly navigate to the relevant section.

Bookshelf Gets More Usable with Collection Feature!

The 'Collection' feature, which allows users to create personalized bookshelves, has been upgraded. Users can now build their own bookshelf with the feeling of arranging shelves in their own room.

Easier and More Convenient Organization

Users can not only select and add books but also add them immediately after finishing reading. Books from the same series can be grouped together, making bookshelves neater and making it easier to find the next volume. Re-reading an entire series also becomes smoother.

Customize Your Own Collection

Users can set their preferred image as the cover of a collection and rearrange collections in any desired order.

Enjoy Reading with Eye Comfort in Mind!

Various convenient settings—such as adjusting text size, zooming images, and changing screen brightness—have been fully retained for users who find text too small or wish to adjust screen brightness according to ambient light. These allow for stress-free, optimal reading comfort. Additionally, 'Dark Mode' is now available on the Android version. The app's overall color scheme can be changed to a calm, dark-toned theme, reducing glare in dim environments and easing eye strain.
