On June 4, 2026, Japanese drone developer Terra Labs signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Defence Technology Institute (DTI) of Thailand's Ministry of Defence during the Japan Drone 2026 event. Witnessed by the Security Business Innovation Association of Japan (SBIJ), the agreement is titled "Disaster Management and Security Cooperation using Unmanned Aerial Systems." Under this MOU, both parties will cooperate on unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for disaster management and security, including coordinate demonstration sites, establishing operational frameworks, and exploring opportunities with government agencies. As a concrete step, they plan to conduct demonstration flights of Terra Labs' TerraDolphin VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft at Photharam Airfield in Ratchaburi Province, Thailand. The airfield provides airspace up to an altitude of 2,000 meters, allowing the validation of long-range flight performance, wide-area observation capabilities, and operational frameworks. Terra Labs and DTI will test these technologies for real-world applications and explore expansion across the ASEAN region.
