Two Eight Inc. (Shibuya, Tokyo; CEO: Atsushi Kino) has expanded its smartphone-based audio guide service, 'Museum Guide,' at the Yushukan Museum of Yasukuni Shrine (Chiyoda, Tokyo). Following the service's launch in April 2025, approximately 60 new contents were added during April and May 2026 as the second phase of development.
This update focuses on deepening the narrative surrounding exhibits and the personal stories of historical figures. A key feature is the inclusion of 'A Letter to Roosevelt' by Rear Admiral Toshiyuki Ichimaru. While the original manuscript is on display at the museum, the guide provides a spoken modern Japanese translation of this letter addressed to President Franklin D. Roosevelt during the closing stages of the Pacific War. The letter goes beyond a simple wartime document, addressing universal themes such as racial discrimination, power structures, and a world without mutual understanding, protesting against a war Japan did not desire.
In light of current global instabilities, including conflicts in Ukraine and tensions involving Iran, this content encourages visitors to view history not as 'someone else's problem' but as relevant to today. The service requires no app download and functions via a web browser. By scanning QR codes within the facility, visitors can automatically access Japanese or English guides based on their device settings.
Features of the Yushukan Audio Guide The guide categorizes all 22 exhibition rooms into six groups, providing audio and text explanations along the tour route, including readings of last letters. It aims to enhance understanding of rare historical materials.
Features of the 'Museum Guide' Service 1. Cost-effective & High Functionality: Browser-based format reduces production and maintenance costs. 2. Rapid Deployment: Rich templates allow for quick setup and easy updates. 3. Hygienic: Users use their own devices, ensuring safety and peace of mind.
