Maruni Wood Industry Hosts Osaka Exhibition for 'kupu sauna' Made of Domestic Cypress

Maruni Wood Industry will host an exhibition for 'kupu sauna,' its new initiative announced last autumn utilizing domestic conifers, at maruni osaka in conjunction with Osaka Art & Design 2026.

'kupu sauna' is a new product developed by Maruni Wood Industry, leveraging nearly 100 years of expertise and aesthetics in wooden furniture making, in collaboration with product designer Wataru Kumano and ONE SAUNA, a pioneer in domestic saunas.

'kupu' means 'dome' or 'covering' in Finnish. As the name suggests, it features a half-dome shape that gently wraps around the user. It uses domestic Yoshino cypress, known for its excellent scent and texture. Reinterpreting traditional barrel saunas for the modern era, it pursues comfortable circulation of heat and steam, a presence that harmonizes with spaces, and a level of comfort designed with the care for detail typical of fine furniture.

Following its debut in Tokyo, this exhibition provides an opportunity to see 'kupu sauna' in Osaka. Through the scent and texture of the wood, the beauty of the structure, and its presence in the room, visitors can experience a new way of approaching saunas from the unique perspective of a furniture manufacturer.
