Junior and Senior High School Specialist Cram School WAYS Introduces駿台's "駿台Diverse" to Launch University Entrance Exam Courses

Mates Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Naonori Endo), which operates the junior and senior high school specialist cram school "WAYS," has decided to introduce the learning system "駿台Diverse" provided by Diversity Study Co., Ltd., a member of the 駿台 Group, and will launch university entrance exam courses for junior and senior high school students and high school students aiming for university entrance exams at all its branches starting July 18 (Sat).

This program will be offered in conjunction with WAYS' in-person instruction at its classrooms to support students in passing their target universities.

Structure Where Exam Preparation Tends to Fall Behind

Junior and senior high schools have fast-paced curricula, and the textbooks and syllabi used vary greatly from school to school.

Before students can review a difficult topic, the class moves on, leaving them with unfinished areas of weakness—this is one of the reasons why exam preparation for junior and senior high school students tends to fall behind.

In addition, in general preparatory schools where courses are organized by target university level, all students in the same course receive the same instruction, which can lead to a "mismatch" with the school's pace and individual areas of weakness.

WAYS also receives many inquiries from parents who say, "We can handle regular tests, but our scores don't improve on mock exams." We have come to believe that a system for exam preparation based on the learning circumstances of each school is necessary.

What is 駿台Diverse?

駿台Diverse is a learning system for high school students developed by 駿台, founded in 1918.

After watching approximately 15-minute video lectures, students write down the key points without looking at any notes, take a confirmation test on the spot, create a summary notebook, and then proceed to a review test with spaced intervals—this 5-step learning cycle of immediately "recalling and using" what was learned is a feature designed based on "retrieval practice" (supervised by Kei Hoshi, Online High School, Stanford University), a learning method that promotes memory retention.

In the 2025 entrance exams, among students who continuously used 駿台Diverse, the percentage of students who passed universities where they initially received D or E grades based on self-scoring of the Common Test for University Admissions was 86.8%, and the first-choice university pass rate was 76.7%.

3 Things WAYS Can Do

1. Learning Design Based on School-Specific Instruction Information

Since its founding, WAYS has operated over 30 branches nationwide as a specialist cram school for junior and senior high schools, accumulating information on textbooks, curricula, and materials used by each school. After identifying the student's areas of weakness, we determine the focus for practice and coaching.

2. Preventing Time Spent "Just Watching Videos"

In the 駿台Diverse learning cycle, students immediately proceed to writing key points and taking confirmation tests after watching the video. In the classroom, students can ask the instructor questions on the spot if they get stuck, and no learning gaps are left behind with the confirmation tests each time.

3. Monthly Coaching Sessions

Based on 駿台's exam data, we show students and their parents the numerical distance to their target university and incorporate it into the learning plan for the following month. Vague anxieties are transformed into concrete plans.

Flow of 120-Minute Session

(1) Review Test: Questions are presented from the previous learning content that the system identified as problematic, and automatic scoring is performed.

(2) Curriculum Learning: The cycle of "video lecture (15 minutes) → writing key points → confirmation test" is repeated (3 sets for intermediate level courses, 2 sets of 30-minute video lectures for advanced level courses).

(3) Output and Supplementary Study: This includes retaking confirmation tests and creating summary notebooks, ensuring that the day's learning is completed without any omissions.
