◇ The Challenge of Overseas Renewable Energy Expansion by Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
It is an extremely rare case, both domestically and internationally, for a small or medium-sized domestic construction company to independently undertake renewable energy EPC projects overseas. Typically, large general contractors or trading companies are involved in such projects, and there are almost no cases where small and medium-sized enterprises directly contract with overseas partners to handle design, procurement, and construction in an integrated manner.
Language, legal systems, financing, local networks, technical certifications – each barrier to overseas expansion is significant, and many small and medium-sized enterprises have given up at the outset. In such a reality, Kamiken Construction Co., Ltd. has taken this difficult step forward, based on the knowledge gained from its domestic solar power plant EPC and grid-connected storage battery business, and the trust relationship with its overseas partners.
This project is not merely an overseas project for a single company; it sends an important message to the entire industry as a pioneering example proving that "Japanese small and medium-sized construction companies can also enter the overseas renewable energy market."
◇ Renewable Energy Business as a Construction Company
Kamiken Construction Co., Ltd. is a general construction company headquartered in Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture. While it has aspects of a house builder that plans, designs, and constructs housing, it also operates as a construction company that designs, constructs, and manages architectural and civil engineering work. Furthermore, it has been involved in the renewable energy business through the ownership, EPC construction, and management of solar power plants. In recent years, it has expanded its scope to include grid-connected storage battery systems, and this project serves as an example of deploying the construction and renewable energy-related knowledge cultivated domestically to the overseas market.

◇ CEO's Comment
Kamiken Construction Co., Ltd. has expanded its business domains to include the ownership, construction, and management of solar power plants and grid-connected storage battery systems, while maintaining its foundation in housing and construction businesses. We have now signed an EPC contract with Green Gold Energy Pty Ltd for the construction of a 5MW/10MWh grid-connected storage battery plant in Adelaide, South Australia. We will adopt PCS from NR Electric Co., Ltd. and a battery system from Sunwoda Energy Technology Co., Ltd. for the BESS. Through this project, we will work on building energy infrastructure that contributes to the spread of renewable energy and the stabilization of power grids.
At the same time, there is something I want to convey to other small and medium-sized companies who, like us, feel the potential in overseas markets but have not yet taken the first step. The notion that "it's impossible to go overseas because we are small" is becoming a thing of the past. The technology and trust built up domestically will surely be recognized overseas. We hope that our challenge will serve as a catalyst for you to take your next step.

◇ Call to Other Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises
The global renewable energy market is rapidly expanding right now. Especially in Southeast Asia, Oceania, and Africa, the demand for storage batteries, solar, and wind power facilities is exploding, and major companies alone cannot keep up with the supply. This is where the strengths of Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises – "on-site capabilities, quality control, and sincere construction" – are needed.
Kamiken Construction's challenge this time is one answer that demonstrates this potential. We hope it will serve as an opportunity for small and medium-sized enterprises with track records in renewable energy and construction domestically, like Kamiken Construction, to turn their attention to overseas markets.
