65 Works by Kawanabe Kyosai Shown for the First Time in Tokyo at Kashima Arts Exhibition

Kashima Arts will host an exhibition featuring the works of late Edo to Meiji period painter Kawanabe Kyosai from June 13 to 28, 2026. Sourced from the extensive "Kai Shuzaburo Collection" amassed by researcher Noboru Fujita, the free exhibition will display 167 hand-painted works and prints. Highlights include 65 works making their Tokyo debut, such as the newly discovered early painting "Oshidori-zu" and the meticulously crafted "Seisei Kyosai Uchiwa-e Shugacho." A gallery tour and catalog will also be available.
