Igaku-Shoin Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shun Kanahara) has published the book 'JRC Resuscitation Guidelines 2025' (supervised by the Japanese Resuscitation Council, a general incorporated association) on July 13, 2026. This publication serves as a standard-setting guideline for saving lives in resuscitation settings.
Providing an unshakable standard in emergency resuscitation.
We are pleased to announce the publication of the revised 'JRC Resuscitation Guidelines 2025,' the first update in five years.
The JRC Resuscitation Guidelines are a globally standardized guideline developed by the Japanese Resuscitation Council (JRC) based on CoSTR (Consensus on Science and Treatment Recommendations)—an internationally standardized evidence framework established by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR)—and tailored to Japan's specific circumstances.
Compiled after thorough deliberation by an editorial committee, nine working groups, and over 200 contributing authors, this book serves as a definitive guide for saving lives in resuscitation settings. It is designed to standardize and promote emergency resuscitation for both the public and healthcare professionals, contributing to improved survival rates in Japan.
Key Features of the JRC Resuscitation Guidelines 2025
Primary readers include medical professionals involved in emergency care—such as physicians, nurses, and emergency medical technicians—as well as the general public.
To empower citizens to perform prompt cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use AEDs appropriately during sudden cardiac arrest, the guidelines include dedicated sections for the public.
Saving patients from life-threatening conditions such as cardiac arrest or suffocation, and guiding them toward social reintegration, requires the 'Chain of Survival.'
JRC uniquely advocates the 'Chain of Survival' through the following four elements. Based on this framework and adopting the GRADE assessment system, this international-standard guideline systematically presents reliable, evidence-based recommendations for resuscitation practice.
1. Prevention of cardiac arrest 2. Early recognition and activation of emergency response 3. Immediate life support (CPR and AED) 4. Advanced life support and intensive care
JRC's Chain of Survival
This revision introduces three new chapters: 'Emergency Cardiovascular Care,' 'Current Epidemiology and Systems in Japan,' and 'Ethics and Law in Resuscitation.' Reflecting changes in the emergency resuscitation landscape and accumulated evidence, the guidelines have evolved into a more practical, Japan-specific resource.
For all medical professionals involved in emergency care, this book serves as a vital reference to support daily clinical decisions and life-saving actions.
