At the "INCOSE International Symposium 2026 (IS2026)," an international forum in the field of systems engineering held from June 13 to 18, 2026, at Pacifico Yokohama, a presentation by Minoru Abe, General Manager of Zuken Inc.'s DX Strategy Office (Head Office: Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture; President and CEO: Jinya Katsutabe; hereinafter "Zuken"), was adopted for the official program and delivered on June 18.

This symposium is held as a forum for sharing international knowledge and discussion on Systems Engineering (SE). This year, experts involved in systems engineering from 34 countries participated, engaging in active information exchange through presentations, panels, and tutorials.

Zuken's presentation adopted at IS2026 is as follows:

"Making SE/MBSE Work: Practical Small-Start Adoption in Japanese Manufacturing"

Presenter: Minoru Abe, General Manager, DX Strategy Office, Zuken Inc.

This presentation proposed a practical approach using "small-start" to overcome stagnation during the introduction of Systems Engineering and MBSE (Model-Based Systems Engineering) in Japanese manufacturing.

In recent years, the business of manufacturing has shifted from simply providing individual products to offering solutions that include services aimed at solving customer issues. This change confronts those involved in development with increasing complexity in product and system requirements. The introduction of SE/MBSE is highly effective in solving this challenge. However, factors such as ambiguity in introduction objectives, concerns about workload on the ground, and the gap in expectations between management and development teams have become obstacles to practical adoption. Based on initiatives by companies in automotive equipment, medical devices, industrial equipment, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, this presentation introduced practical examples of an approach that starts with a small scope and gradually expands the application range, including:

Initiatives to organize product usage scenarios and surrounding environments, leading to improved accuracy in requirements definition.

Initiatives to analyze customer operations and issues, leading to clarification of solution requirements.

Initiatives to promote standardization and reuse design to cope with the increase in product variations.

The presentation also touched upon the potential for advanced requirements analysis through the integration of generative AI and MBSE, and the possibility of information organization and interpretation support using metamodels, indicating the future prospects for MBSE utilization in design and development environments.
