Ishinomaki Laboratory, which began in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, in the wake of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, has continued its activities based on DIY spirit and craftsmanship rooted in the community. Immediately after the disaster, people in the affected areas gathered with limited materials and tools to create what was necessary for daily life with their own hands. Over the past 15 years, this philosophy of Ishinomaki Laboratory has expanded beyond Japan to communities around the world.

Currently, Ishinomaki Laboratory is promoting the 'Made in Local Project,' collaborating with local partners to respect the materials, techniques, and relationships unique to each region. At this exhibition in Copenhagen, following those in Tokyo and Shanghai, they will present 15 iconic furniture pieces that have played a particularly important role in the history of Ishinomaki Laboratory, in collaboration with dotcom.

It will not be limited to just an exhibition; they will also hold workshops for the 'ISHINOMAKI BIRD KIT,' open to participants from children to adults. It is not just about showing furniture as 'finished products,' but about gathering people, sparking conversations, and sharing time while working with hands. Ishinomaki Laboratory will implement their philosophy of fostering communities through craftsmanship within the city of Copenhagen.

At the venue, they will also screen interview footage produced with filmmaker Nobu Arakawa, featuring people in Ishinomaki who support community development through various roles such as shop owners, regional community figures, and professionals in manufacturing, creativity, business creation, and human resource development. Please feel the atmosphere of the city of Ishinomaki through the speakers of <Dynaudio>, an audio brand founded in 1977 in Copenhagen.

The small activities that started in Ishinomaki have now spread while connecting with various lands and cultures. Even in different environments, their stance remains the same: reading local materials, thinking about relationships with people, and carefully creating what is necessary. Crossing the 15-year milestone, Ishinomaki Laboratory will continue to move forward with local craftsmanship in various places.
