A seasonal limited sale of 'Hakata Minazuki,' the wagashi symbolizing Hakata's early summer, will be held at 'hakatakara,' the product wing of Hakatamachiya Furusato-kan on Kushida Shrine's approach in Fukuoka City. The event runs June 11-14, 2026 (Thu-Sun), 10am-6pm. Inspired by Kyoto's traditional 'Minazuki' sweet, the confection was devised in 1999 by volunteers of the Fukuoka City Wagashi Guild with the vision of making it 'Hakata's standard wagashi 100 years from now.' All shops follow the shared rule of using bracken starch and adzuki beans wrapped in bamboo leaf. Rooted in the ancient custom of 'Nagoshi no Harae' purification rites, it is cherished as a talisman for warding off evil and praying for good health. Six long-established shops participate on a rotating daily basis: Fuki (adzuki/lotus bracken/zanmai), Seichian (dainagon/white adzuki), Uzuki (adzuki/gyokuro), Izumiya (adzuki/matcha/almond), Kagetsudo Juei (adzuki/hojicha), and Umeya (hon-warabi/milk tea). The venue, a townhouse over 100 years old, preserves Hakata's streetscape and history. Access: 5-min walk from Subway Gion Station or Kushida-jinja-mae; 15-min walk from Hakata Station.
