A practical technology addressing the challenges of labor shortages, construction quality assurance, and environmental impact reduction in port infrastructure has received a prestigious industry award. The 'Precast Pier Method using PC Compression Joining (PC-Unit Pier Method®),' jointly developed by Nippon PS Co., Ltd., Penta-Ocean Construction Co., Ltd., the National Institute of Maritime, Port and Aviation Technology, and the Institute of Science Tokyo, received the FY2025 'Technology Development Award' from the Japan Prestressed Concrete Engineering Association. The award ceremony was held on May 22, 2026. The method was highly evaluated for its ability to simultaneously improve productivity through shorter construction periods and labor savings, reduce CO₂ emissions, and significantly ease constraints such as the need for large crane vessels and massive production yards.
