On June 1, ICT Research Institute released the results of an international comparison of smartphone and tablet prices. Amidst rising prices and yen depreciation caused by the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and Middle Eastern tensions, the institute surveyed price realities as of April 2026. The study covers G20 nations and uses Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) for yen conversion. The results indicate that iPhone prices in Japan are approximately 30% lower than the G20 average. Conversely, Android smartphone prices vary by model, with devices like the Google Pixel 9a tending to be higher than the average. Regarding tablets, the iPad series is about 30% cheaper than the G20 average, whereas the Google Pixel Tablet is about 20% more expensive. ICT Research Institute plans to continue monitoring transportation and raw material costs and will publish regular survey data.
