AREA's 'chair A-10' and 'floor lamp BLESSED STONE' Selected as Finalists at NYCxDESIGN Awards 2026

Japanese furniture and interior brand 'AREA' (NODA Japan Inc.) is pleased to announce that two of its works, 'chair A-10' and 'floor lamp BLESSED STONE,' have been selected as Finalists at the international design award 'NYCxDESIGN Awards 2026,' held in New York.

The NYCxDESIGN Awards is one of the international design awards representing New York's design community, organized by INTERIORDESIGN and NYCxDESIGN.

Works are selected from furniture, lighting, spatial design, and product design gathered from around the world, based on their excellent design, originality, and spatial proposal capabilities.

'chair A-10' is a reinterpretation of the classic British Windsor chair, based on the structural principles of traditional Japanese shrine architecture.

Its silhouette, inspired by torii gates, and its back structure, incorporating the concepts of main and auxiliary pillars, express the quiet tension inherent in Japanese architecture and modern structural beauty.

A dignified posture composed of straight lines, a seat carved to fit the hips.

Carved from solid woods such as walnut and oak, as well as zelkova traditionally used in shrine architecture and unique Japanese cherry, it is designed by fusing ergonomics with the sensibility of skilled craftsmen, achieving both everyday comfort and the presence of an art piece. Furthermore, by incorporating the traditional 'ro-iro' lacquer finish, it proposes 'future antiques' with durability and beautiful aging.

'floor lamp BLESSED STONE' is a lighting piece themed around bringing 'stillness' and 'introspection' back into space through natural stone and light.

Inspired by the scene of lightning striking a stone standing on a desolate land, it uses 'Iyo stone,' a rare metamorphic rock from Ehime Prefecture, born from a geological layer approximately 200 million years ago.

Light source that can illuminate various directions and is dimmable, serial number engraved on a brass plate.

The composition of a single light inserted into the stone creates a quiet tension with the power of natural materials and delicate light, bringing a sculptural presence to the space. Each stone has a unique expression, selected by the designer himself. It is not a mass-produced item, but a unique art piece that can be cherished for a lifetime. As a bridge between nature, faith, design, and function, it brings quiet value to everyday life.

The award-winning works of the NYCxDESIGN Awards 2026 are scheduled to be announced at the awards ceremony in New York on May 18, 2026.
